welcome to the first post on my blog. On this post I’m going to talk about the artworks I did for my GCSE Examination back in 2009.
So after starting GCSE Art in late 2007 and painting many paintings, the moment had arrived to create the final works for the examination process.
For this final part there was the (1) Preparation Work where you had to do paintings based the themes the examination board decided, then you had the (2) proper exam which was doing a painting in 12 hours based on the same theme.
In my case I chose the themes of portraits and intertwined. For portraits I remember clearly it said someone sleeping on a cushion, so the painting had to show someone with their eyes closed resting on a cushion.
For intertwined I chose fire and water because I love the combination of those two elements on art and the effect they generate due to the colour pallettes of blue and orange. In order to generate a shape between both elements I got inspiration from the shape of barbed wires.
During this time period I learned several techniques which I still apply today. By painting water in the process of falling, I learned the technique to portray the smoothness of the water falling.
This effect I started to apply it on the part of the hair of my portraits, and I discovered that the outcome was much better tan the result I had previously obtained. I got a more dynamic hair which brings the portrait live in some way.
Another technique I learned was that by applying extra water to the acrylic Paint, it gave extra time to apply another colour so the resulting blending effect was much better than how we normally blend with acrylics. It is in the middle between blending with oil paint and blending with watercolours.
The techniques I learned during my GCSE years were soft pastel, acrylic paint, oil pastels and graphite pencils, being acrylic paint my favourite specially for portraits. From this moment onwards painting became a very important part of me both at a personal and intelectual level.

Bienvenidos al primer post de mi blog. En esta entrada voy a hablar de los trabajos que hice para el examen de GCSE (ESO británica) en el año 2009.
Después de empezar el GCSE de Arte a finales de 2007 y habiendo pintado muchos trabajos, el momento de crear las últimas piezas para la examinarse había llegado.
En este proceso había dos partes (1) Trabajos Preparatorios donde tenías que hacer dibujos basados en la temática que los examinadores habían decidido y después (2) el examen el cual consistía en hacer un dibujo en 12 horas basado en la misma temática.
En mi caso elegí la temática de retratos y entrelazamiento. Para los retratos recuerdo perfectamente que había que hacer a una persona durmiendo en un cojín por lo tanto tenía que salir alguien con los ojos cerrados apoyándose sobre un cojín.
Para entrelazamiento elegí agua y fuego ya que me encanta el resultado que se obtiene al plasmar ambos elementos en la pintura, especialmente el efecto que se obtiene al combinar las paletas de colores con azules y naranjas. Para obtener una forma mezclando ambos elementos busque inspiración en la forma de los alambres de espino.
Durante este periodo aprendí varias técnicas que sigo empleando a día de hoy. Al pintar agua cayendo aprendí la técnica de plasmar la suavidad del agua en movimiento.
Este efecto lo empecé a aplicar en la parte del cabello de los retratos y descubrí que el resultado era mucho mejor que la técnica que había usado hasta entonces. Con ello obtenía un cabello mucho más dinámico el cual da cierta vida al retrato.
Otra técnica que aprendí fue que tras añadir más agua a la pintura acrílica daba un tiempo extra para poder aplicar otra tonalidad y como resultado el efecto de degradado de una tonalidad a otra era mucho más efectivo que los otros métodos más convencionales que se usan con la pintura acrílica. Es un método que está a medio camino entre degradar con oleos y degradar con acuarelas.
Los métodos que aprendí durante estos dos años fueron el pastel suave, pintura acrílica, pasteles al óleo y lápices de grafito, siendo la pintura acrílica mi medio preferido especialmente para retratos. Desde este momento la pintura empezó a formar una parte muy importante de mi vida, tanto a nivel personal como intelectual.
